Prayaschitta - atonement of sinful acts
In life, we do things knowingly out of understanding and sometimes unknowingly by mistake or by oversight, or by not getting full grasp of the situation we are in. Everybody does something or the other to carry on with their life, but a person who analyses the consequences of his action and if he feels that what he did was not correct then he does repent and does Prayaschitta for his sinful acts or acts not aligned with nature. If you had not acted in a pious or virtuous way then it can be termed as sinful acts.
The moment you realize that you did something wrong, you take remedial measures to correct the wrongness, this course correction act is called Prayaschitta. We repent on so many outcome of our actions but we can correct the wrong doings on our part only on a few of them. Most of them once did cannot be reversed back and we just have to bear with the consequences of our action.
In order to not to repent we need to change the way we do things in life. Firstly, we have to understand that things tend to go wrong only when we are not present 100% in that situation and we have gone out of focus from the situation in hand. Things tend to go wrong because there was a lapse of concentration and you were not attentive and drifted away from the present. Doing things with high level of concentration and attentiveness leads to better outcome with lessor probability of things going out of hand and doing Prayaschitta for the same.
