Vairagya - detachment
Since we are born on this earth we are fascinated by objects of desires, materialistic as well as sensory objects. We fall for everything that is beautiful for our eyes. After fulfilling all your worldly desires, subjective as well as objective, you reach a point in life when you feel like detaching your self from all the bondages you were involved with throughout your journey in this world up until now. You feel like giving up your feeling of possessiveness and attachment to worldly things. Vairagya means renunciation, detachment from matter and engagement of mind in the spirit. Spiritual discipline involving voluntary austerities to achieve detachment from sense objects.
True Vairagya refers to an internal state of mind rather than to external lifestyle and can be practiced equally well by one engaged in family life and career as it can be by a renunciate. You can be a family man but you do not get attached to anything or anybody and live a life of contentment. Vairagya does not mean suppression of or developing repulsion for material objects. You feel you had enough of everything and you can without it. You have reached a saturation point in your life and you need no more of anything objective or subjective desirable things in your life. You just live a life of without attaching to anything at all.
A person with Vairagya develops a strong attraction for the inner spiritual source of fulfillment and happiness and all limited attachments fall away naturally. Balance is maintained between one's external life and the inner spiritual state through the practice of simplicity by concentrating more in your internal spirit and knowing your true self.
When you do not get attached to worldly things you will put a full stop to your wandering mind. You will not get attached to the thought process that runs continuously in your mind. You will start living in the present and lead a conscious life by being a witness to all the happenings around you as well as inside of your self. You will be a person in the state of awareness all the time.
Vairagya does not mean you are fed up with life. It does not mean you abruptly leave everything including your job, family, friends and go into the forest or to a secluded place to live. You continue to live with whomsoever you are with and do what you are doing, be with your family and friends but you do not get attached to anything. You are with them but you are not your usual self like you were earlier, you are a selfless individual or a being with no self. You can live with or without any kind of attachment by just being a witness to all the happenings around you and within your self.
Vairagya is not the negative, indifferent state of non-caring for anyone or anything. On the contrary, Vairagya is a positive, love-filled quality of caring for all without the attachment that brings bondage with it. Anything that brings bondage will not allow you to be your true self at all in life. When you do give up you start receiving all that you need to receive and gain spiritually.
Spirituality helps you to know your true self and overcome your attachments in life. It will make you live with everything but not getting attached to anything and free from all the bondages in life. It will make you realize and understand all the intricacies of live and living and transform you into an Enlightened Being.
Embrace Spirituality and Enjoy life by celebrating your existence
